The 3-Month AI PM Transition Roadmap
A self-guided plan to move into an AI Product Manager role. No fluff, just what to do month by month. Work it on your own, or get it built around your exact background in a Career Clarity session.
MONTH 1
Foundations & Positioning
- Learn AI PM at a PM's depth, not an engineer's: how LLMs, evals, context and the cost / quality / latency tradeoffs shape product decisions.
- Pull 2 to 3 things from your current role that are genuinely product work (defining problems, prioritising, working with data or engineers) and write them up as stories.
- Rewrite your resume around outcomes and product language. Add an AI project line, even if it is a side project.
- Pick one target archetype: AI-first startup, or an AI feature team inside a bigger company. Your story changes depending on which.
MONTH 2
Build Proof & Start Applying
- Ship one small AI product artifact: a teardown of an AI product, a PRD for an AI feature, or a tiny prototype built with no-code or LLM tools. This becomes your proof.
- Build a target list of 15 to 20 companies and start applying. Track every application in one sheet.
- Begin outreach: 10 to 15 thoughtful connection requests a week to PMs and hiring managers at those companies, each with a specific ask.
- Make your LinkedIn read AI PM in progress, not your old title.
MONTH 3
Interview & Close
- Drill the formats you'll face: product sense, guesstimates, RCA, and AI-specific cases (how you'd evaluate and ship an AI feature, handle hallucination, measure quality).
- Do a mock interview every week. Record yourself and fix how you structure answers, not just what you say.
- Prep per company before each real interview: their product, their AI bets, and 4 to 5 sharp questions of your own.
- When offers come, evaluate and negotiate. Don't take the first number.
THE HARD PART
